How we started
Net Bags Australia is owned by Vicki de Carle. Vicki started an interest in reusing packaging at an early age when she decided that the amount of Christmas wrapping paper was ridiculous from a cost and environmental point of view. Hence the de Carle family Christmas pillow cases. Our children painted them and they are still in use some 25 years later.
Continuing the good work of the Green Bag
Vicki embraced the Green Bags as they were introduced into supermarkets and uses these bags for all sorts of things. When moving house Vicki found they were perfect for books etc.
Help the Environment
The only niggly thing was those plastic bags in the shops for fruit and vegetables. What a waste! People take a plastic bag for one apple…..why? There had to be a solution. The planning started and the market was researched. There was definitely a need, but where to get it manufactured. Another of Vicki’s passion was the answer.
Why Bali?
Bali has been a lovely island getaway for Vicki for 10 years now and she has a family that she supports, they call her Mum and she is now “grandma” to 2 wonderful children Adit (aged 6) and Vilia 2 (born 24 October 2008). Through this lovely young family the Net Bags are manufactured. We enlisted some family members and a cottage industry began. They are paid a good price for their work and it is creating employment for the extended family.
Where some of the money goes
Through her contacts, Vicki has begun helping educate children on the Island of Nusa Penida off Bali. It takes a very small amount by Australian standards for uniforms and school fees for a child. Over 200 children have had assistance with their education through Vicki's fundriaising efforts and passion for for these lovely children. Uniforms have been provided, and most importanly text books supplied. In November 2009 Vicki and some friends visited Nusa Penida and provided a full set of text books to 90 chidren at an elementary(primary) school. These were the first text books these children have ever owned. On subsequent visits the headmaster has reported amazing results from the children with text books. A number of friends have been contributing and more children every week are getting help with their education.
How you can help your cause / passion/ school
To continue with this philosophy of giving, Vicki has decided that a percentage of all sales will be donated to a good cause. Therefore when you purchase your Net Bags you have a choice as to where your “donation” will go. If you have a worthwhile charity or community group, they can be added to our list and they will receive a percentage of your purchase. Please email us and we will add your charity / sporting club / school to our list.
